It’s the Holidays!

Toastmaster Rei Fuller introduced the theme of “It’s the Holidays.”  The room had been configured for the holidays due to Earth Fare’s need of  some meeting space for special packaging.  It wasn’t quite as dire as fitting a square peg into a cylinder hole, but as our first speaker said of Apollo 13, the new mission was accomplished.

Guest Kathleen Klawitter’s speech was “A Successful Failure.”   She gave the background story of Apollo 13’s fuel tank explosion, the aftermath in switching from module to capsule, and the mission to return safely to earth.  She used objects to suggest the box and cylinder that had to be engineered to supply life-sustaining oxygen.  And, yes, duct tape, was revealed as a real life saver.  Her project was from the advanced manual on Storytelling, Project Five, Bringing History to Life.

Tres Magner’s speech was titled “Dive in!  The Water’s Fine.”  It featured  Tres’s experience as a lifeguard at the opening and incorporated members sharing in pairs strategies to overcome fear or to achieve confidence.    The speech was from the Educational Better Speaker Series, project three.

Tim Edward’s speech was “One More Minute.”  Tim gave three stories to illustrate his inspirational theme and to make progress in making this speech contest-ready for the upcoming International Speech Contest. This was Pathways Motivational Strategies, Level One, Evaluation and Feedback, Number One.

Dada Maheshvarananda was Table Topic Master and presented four prompts on a holiday or charitable sort of  theme.  These included an act of kindness and love working miracles.

General Evaluator Tony Kombol introduced his evaluators for each of the speakers:   Stan Coss for Kathleen‘s; Glenda Team-Edward for Tres’s;  John Bowen for Tim’s.  After each evaluation, Tony asked for a couple of remarks from members for a round robin evaluation.  Next he introduced his eyes and ears team members for their reports:  Glenda as ah-counter;  Phyllis Kombol for grammarian/word of the day “glorify”; Alicia Hughes for timer.  Then Tony gave his evaluation for what had not already been evaluated.

In attendance were the following: Rei Fuller, Stan Coss,  Glenda Teams-Edwards,  Tim Edwards,  Alicia Hughes, John Bowen, Tony Kombol, Phyllis Kombol, Kathleen Klawitter, Dada Maheshvarananda and Tres Magner.

Just before  this meeting concluded at 10:30, President Rei Fuller said that Brian Woolf had confirmed for the open house date of March 16 with a presentation on effective evaluation.  For the area contest of March 23, the Table Topics representative was to be Tres Magner and the International Speech representative was to be Tim Edwards.  Rei said she’d check one last time to see if any other club members wanted to compete, which would mean having a club contest to resolve who moves forward to the area.
John Bowen asked that confirmations of roles be continued in the freehosttoast site.  Speaker introductions he said could also be added in on the agenda.  Tim Edwards has now inserted the “Visit the Website” line so that the site can be found by any visitors to TMI in search of an advanced club in our area.  That link is the following:   https://6988955.toastmastersclubs.org/
Kathleen began filling out the new member paperwork at meeting's end.  She liked the feedback she received from her speech and aspires to be a paid professional speaker.

The next meeting will be on 1-19, the usual third Saturday of the month meeting time.
Minutes submitted by Secretary Stan Coss.
